Thoroughly enjoyed Jane's Food Styling & Photography Workshop. It was well planned and had plenty of content, with tips & tricks along the way. Jane was very person-centred, meeting everyone's different learning needs. Would definitely recommend any of Jane's photography courses - 100% !! Alison
Food photography can sometimes feel like it’s only for the pros with specialist equipment, studio lights, and years of training. But it doesn’t have to be. With the right approach, you can create professional-looking shots using just your phone or camera, natural light, and a few simple techniques.
In a one-to-one lesson, I’ll show you how to set up and style simple but striking food shots. You’ll learn which settings to use, how to make the most of natural light, and styling tricks that will dramatically improve your photos.
Alternatively I’m also running a one-off Food & Product Photography Workshop in Altrincham.
Perfect for showcasing your baking, handmade crafts, or tabletop products like ceramics and homeware, this beginner-friendly workshop will give you practical skills you can start using straight away.
Here’s an idea of what you will learn on a workshop or lesson:
- The best kit for photographing food (without spending a fortune).
- How to set up your shooting area.
- How to adapt the natural daylight to create light and bright or dark and moody shots.
- How to style the food and props.
- Simple composition techniques and getting creative with colour, texture and patterns.
- How to do simple edits, such as cropping, straightening, adding text and more, using freely available software.
Who the tuition is suitable for:
- Anyone starting out in food photography.
- Food bloggers.
- Food Instagrammers
- Restaurant, pub and cafe owners.
- Artisan bakers, cake makers and chefs.
- People who love cooking as a hobby and want to photograph and show off their masterpieces.
I've been teaching food photography for more than ten years and have run workshops for multi million pound brands like Muller, Spar and The University of Chester. I also run one to one lessons and can create bespoke workshops for small groups.
The venue for private tuition:
It's your choice! For one to two people there's the Love Your Lens natural light studio in Wincham, near Northwich. We have converted our garage into an ideal location for food photography. It's bright, airy and self-contained with cupboards stacked full of props and photography backdrops. For larger groups we can use a great location based in a cookery school. Or the workshop can be held on your premises.
