Master Food Photography With Your Phone
With pro food photographer Jane Burkinshaw
On this online, live workshop you will learn everything you need to know to be able to take professional-looking food photographs with a phone.
If you are a food industry professional, foodie or blogger, this workshop is perfect for you.
It's beginner-friendly and aims to make food photography as accessible and achievable as possible for all.
What you will learn
- How to plan the shoot.
- How to create a table top set up and how to shoot in a real life venue like a restaurant.
- How to use natural light to create a variety of different looks.
- How to decide the angle to shoot at, from eye level through to overhead shots.
- What equipment you need, including must-have features on a phone*.
- How to unlock the full potential of your phone's camera.
- How to choose props and backdrops.
- How to compose and style a shot.
- Problem solving.
- How to edit photos on a phone to take them to a different level.
*I use the iPhone 14 pro to photograph food but you can use other brands, as long as they have portrait mode as well as photo mode, and ideally 3x optical zoom. You may need to look a few things up online during the workshop or afterwards, to find out how they work on your make and model of phone.
Workshop format
The workshop is four hours long and will take place live via a zoom link, which will be sent out to you beforehand. The session will be recorded and available to you for four weeks.
The first part of the session will be a slide presentation with live commentary, covering all the main points. There will be regular pauses to check in with you and to answer any questions.
There will be a fifteen minute break about halfway through.
The second part of the workshop will be live demonstrations of shots using different angles and ways of using natural light. You will be able to follow along using the web camera and live screen shots from my phone.
This will be followed by a live editing demo using the native photo editing software on the phone and also using the Lightroom Mobile app.
There will also be time for Q&As at the end of the workshop.

Hi, I am Jane, pro food photographer and tutor. I love food photography and am passionate about giving people the skills and confidence to take professional looking photos with a phone or camera. I avoid jargon, preferring to make photography accessible and achievable for everyone.
I've taught around 4,000 people over the last 15 years and hosted food photography workshops for multi-million-pound brands including Müller and Spar.
