Composition for Better Photos
Do you ever look at a photograph and wonder why it works so well? Perhaps you've been told to use the Rule of Thirds or leading lines, but you're not quite sure how to apply these ideas in your own photography. Or maybe you think composition is something that comes naturally to creative people, but not to you.
The truth is that you've been learning composition your entire life. Every film you've watched, every photograph you've admired, every beautifully designed room, shop window or magazine cover has helped shape your understanding of what looks visually appealing. You already have a creative eye. This workshop will help you understand and develop it.
In this friendly and practical workshop, you'll learn how photographers use composition to guide the viewer's eye, create stronger images and tell more compelling visual stories. We'll explore techniques such as balance, framing, leading lines, patterns, shapes, layers and negative space, but we'll focus on understanding why they work rather than treating them as rules to memorise.
You'll also learn how to look at a scene more deliberately, spot distractions, recognise opportunities and make creative choices with greater confidence.
Whether you photograph with a phone, DSLR or mirrorless camera, this workshop will help you move beyond taking snapshots and start creating photographs with more impact and intention.
