Photography and Yoga? Really?!

Yes, really! To be honest I've never had any doubts. Photography can a very absorbing and mindful activity, slowing down to observe what is around you, consider the light and create an image that lets you remember the moment. Then the yoga or pilates helps us to unwind, be in the moment, leave any day to day stresses and cares behind. Combine all of that into a weekend break in beautiful, calm surroundings and it's a wonderful way to escape and take time for ourselves.

So this is exactly what Lindi (from Simply Escape) and I set out to do for 14 guests in the Lakes at the beginning of November. The image below is one of my favourite from the weekend...

Girl on pier. And relax
This image was taken first thing in the morning by one of the guests with her smartphone on the shores of Lake Windermere at Brathay Hall. Straight after this she went on to do the first yoga class of the day. Sums the weekend up for me.

I went as I wanted to improve my photography skills. I love the way Jane teaches and I want to increase my knowledge so that I can start to sell some of my photographs. Being part of the workshops and understanding what settings to have my camera on was my favourite part. Taking photos was very high on the list too. I loved all the trips out, to Chesters, to the waterfall and to Ambleside. I think the content was spot on. Jane covered everything that I wanted really. I had been almost scared to use my flash gun before but now have the confidence to give it a go... What could go wrong? You just learn from your mistakes 🤣
It really was a full on weekend, but I enjoyed it. Loved going out with everyone on the Saturday night too. I hope I have made some lovely new friends. Lovely group of people. We all had a laugh. I am very pleased with how much I have learned about my camera and composing a shot. A fun weekend that I would love to do again. Thank you so much to both Lindi and Jane who made the weekend extra special 💜

Over the weekend guests could take part in some yoga sessions with sensei Tony Mousah and  several photography workshops with me. Tony made sure his sessions were geared to the various levels of experience with yoga and I ran sessions that were suitable for all levels, from smart phone users to more advanced photographers.

I made sure there was an emphasis on fun, practical sessions where everyone could participate. For example we did sessions on flash photography, taking portraits in natural light, photographing a waterfall and shooting around Ambleside. I also asked everyone to bring a small personal item and asked them to photograph it in ten different ways. For some reason 'boob purse' was a real hit!

Rather than write lots here about the weekend I'll let the pictures from the weekend do the talking. Further dates will be announced shortly for 2020. The Lakes Weekend did genuinely sell out very quickly so don't hang about!
